New Hampshire

Overview

Casella is a regional integrated materials management company with over 50 years of waste and recycling experience. We recover nearly 1.4 million tons of recyclable material each year and put it to a higher and better use, making us one of the leading recyclers in the Eastern United States.

For more than 30 year, we have partnered with customers across New Hampshire, including residents and municipalities, education and healthcare institutions, small and large businesses and retailers, industrial manufacturers, and more, to build a sustainable future, together.

Service

Homes and businesses across the state rely on us for reliable waste and recycling services. We serve dozens of municipalities from Salem to Littleton and operate roughly 120 trucks and 16 facilities to meet our customers’ daily needs.

Environment

Annually, our New Hampshire operations recover nearly 20,000 tons of recyclables, and over 7,000 tons of organics, conserving disposal capacity and returning valuable resources to the economy.

Infrastructure

Casella advances the state’s solid waste hierarchy with an integrated network of facilities to safely and reliably collect, transfer, process, and dispose of waste. With in-state disposal capacity and regional recycling capacity we connect NH homes and businesses with the latest technology and services.

People & Community

We proudly employ over 290 people in the State of New Hampshire with our payroll and taxes exceeding $24 million per year. In addition, Casella employees volunteer hundreds of hours annually in local communities, including projects with veterans organizations, youth groups, and environmental clean-ups.

Innovation

Food Waste Recovery

Camp Robin Hood, in partnership with Casella, has harnessed the power of food waste to further advance their commitment to sustainability. Campers and staff now separate their food scraps and grind them into a high-energy organic slurry to deliver to nearby on-farm anaerobic digesters to produce renewable energy. Their implementation of the Grind2Energy system to recover food waste marks the first summer camp in the nation to adopt the technology.

Mattress Recycling

Mattresses are a compelling recent recycling success story. We have invested in the infrastructure to enable mattress and box spring recycling across our footprint and currently process more than 200,000 units per year. We currently collect mattresses at several of our transfer facilities in New Hampshire. Through these operations, we conserve valuable New England disposal capacity and recover wood, metal, foam, and cotton from the disposal stream.

Campus Innovation

With an annual sponsorship, Casella helps to support the student volunteers at Dartmouth College who run the “Free Market” thrift store program. The program captures donated clothing from students and staff and makes these items accessible to the campus community. Each year the program gains more participation and keeps more material in circulation on campus.

Service & Community

Collecting Color: Flag Recycling

Casella’s Flag Drop Box initiative began at our North Country Environmental Services Landfill to address the challenge of improper flag disposal. The program inspired flag drop boxes at dozens of our transfer stations and drop-offs where citizens can place worn flags – thousands are collected each year. Flags are retired with dignity with the help of Veterans2Veterans and other community groups.

Community Clean-Up Efforts in North Country, NH

Casella is proud to be a part of more than 80 volunteers who come together annually to help keep the North Country of New Hampshire clean. In partnership with Friends of Remich Park in Littleton, we assisted in improvements to the park such as mulching the playground, painting picnic tables and assembling new benches.
