FEE INFORMATION

Casella strives to provide our customers with the highest quality waste and recycling services at a great overall value.

Fuel & Inflation Update

We are constantly working to improve our service, contain our operating costs, and develop solutions to reduce our overall environmental impact. However, the rising costs of environmental compliance along with fluctuations in fuel prices, commodity values, and other items are not fully within our control. Because of this, customers may be assessed one or more of the fees described below depending upon their service or based on the terms of their service contract.

Energy & Environmental Fee or Fuel Fee*

The Energy & Environmental Fee or Fuel Fee is a company-wide recurring fee that is comprised of the floating Energy Fee and the fixed Environmental Fee. The Energy & Environmental Fee or Fuel Fee is not a tax, surcharge, or fee mandated by or remitted to any governmental or regulatory agency. The Energy & Environmental Fee will float on a monthly basis based upon the changes in diesel fuel prices and will be determined based on the customer type and the information below.

Collection Customers: The Energy component of the Energy & Environmental Fee or Fuel Fee for collection customers is based on the following linked EIA/DOE Table for U.S. On-Highway Diesel Fuel Prices. New England (PADD1A) pricing is utilized for customers in ME, MA, NH, RI, CT, and VT. Central Atlantic (PADD1B) pricing is utilized for customers in NY, PA, NJ, DE, and MD. The Energy component of the Energy & Environmental Fee will be determined by the Energy Fee Table. On a select and limited basis, primarily as it relates to acquisitions or specific contract or agreement terms, customers may be subject to Environmental Fees, Environmental Surcharges, Fuel Fees, and/or Fuel Surcharges that may differ for a reasonable period of time.

Resource Solutions Customers: The Energy component of the Resource Solutions Energy & Environmental Fee for Resource Solutions customers is based on the following linked EIA/DOE Table for U.S. On-Highway Diesel Fuel Prices. East Coast (PADD1) pricing is utilized for Resource Solutions customers. Transfer Station Customers: The Energy component of the Transfer Station Energy & Environmental Fee for transfer station customers is based on the following linked EIA/DOE Table for U.S. On-Highway Diesel Fuel Prices. The Environmental component of the Energy & Environmental Fee was increased in July of 2024 to offset, in part, direct and indirect company-wide costs to operate our collection, transfer, recycling, landfill, landfill gas to energy and organics operations in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner, and to achieve an acceptable operating margin. The amount of the fee is not specifically tied to costs to service a specific customer account and is subject to change or implementation at any time at Casella’s discretion.
